District Club Wins Ginkgo Award

The Lions Club International recently held their 93rd international 2010 convention in Sydney Australia. There were 10,000 lions from over 100 countries participating in this convention from June 28 - July 2, 2010.

Presentation at International Convention

The president of Lions International only presented eight International Ginkgo awards to clubs or districts throughout the world. Lions International has over 1.3 million members and 45,000 clubs throughout the world. The Camarillo-Somis Pleasant Valley Lions Club was nominated and won first place in one of those eight categories. The category was "Largest Donation to LCIF by a Lions Club." It was Michael J. Brown's great honor and privilege to represent his club on receiving one of the eight International President's 2009-10 Ginkgo awards. The Camarillo-Somis Pleasant Valley Lions Club was the only club or district in the United States and Canada to win this very prestigious award.

First District Meeting

Save the dates: August 20-21 for the first District Meeting of the year. All Lions in the District are invited to attend. Friday evening will be special as we are meeting at the historic Camarillo Ranch House (where you can park your RV for $10 if you want).

The business meeting on Saturday will be at the Camarillo Community Center, 1605 E. Burnley Street, Camarillo, 93010 (805-482-1966). Take a look at the flyer, fill it out and send it in. It is an inexpensive event and with the Pleasant Valley Lions hosting, it should be tons of fun, too.

Bulletin Judges

The following are the Bulletin Judges for the 2010-11 Lion year. They will be listed here for a short while and then will be located under Annual Committees.

Roster & Newsletter Info

Signup Now

We are preparing the roster and newsletter subscriptions for the coming year (2010-11). Be sure to advertise in the 2010-11 Roster & Newsletter and also subscribe for Roster and Newsletters. If you want to subscribe to the newsletter and receive a roster, you need to signup before June 1.

Facebook and Google Pages

Now that the Cabinet meeting is behind us, it is time to work on our Google and Facebook pages. For the time being, the Facebook page is open (meaning you don't have to be approved to join it). Just click on the link at the bottom of the menu and go. The Google page requires that you ask to join and be approved. The reason for that (and the reason we'll probably have to do the same with Facebook) is that spammers start posting ads for products you don't want to hear about. When you submit your request on Google, please include your real name (no one knows your email address) and club affiliation.

If you have photos of a club event, feel free to put them up on the Facebook page's photo page. You can post videos on the video page as well. We'll leave them up for several months so everyone has a chance to view them. Putting pictures up is quite easy and a wonderful way to memorialize an event. Facebook is a nice place to chat with other Lions in the district as well as post quick announcements.

The Google site is more for structured discussions. We have quite a few discussion subjects of continuing interest, like: Programs/speakers of note, a list of Eye Doctors for Screenings, Disasters/hearing/sight Community of Interest and how to handle lots of referrals from a vision screening.

Welcome Lions 4-A3 Pirates

District Governor Dan Lyon has proclaimed us the "Pirates of Lions 4-A3." In keeping with his theme this year, we are to enjoy each others' companionship and have a rollicking good time while doing fabulous service projects for our communities. Fun and service go hand-in-hand.

Lions District 4-A3 is located along the coast of California, north of Los Angeles and south of Big Sur. If you'd like to find a Lions club in Ventura, Santa Barbara or San Luis Obispo counties, please click on Find a Club and enter the name of your city.

Club Signage

Zone One Chairman, Lion Nick Sherwin, has coordinated getting signs made for District Clubs. If your club doesn't have a sign outside their meeting place, doesn't have signs for events or needs a banner to attract attention at a distance, check out the special pricing and details in Lion Nick's flyer.

Calendar Items

If you have an event you'd like to put on our calendar, use the link at the bottom of every page on the site. If you wish to post a flyer along with the announcement, include the content of the flyer in Microsoft Word, Adobe PDF or JPG format and sent it as an attachment to Webmaster Toby Scott.
